Face Jug - Southern Folk Pottery - Church Lady

A new TRIP original Southern Pottery Face Jug.

This whimsical "Church Lady" Face Jug is an original piece of Alabama folk art from TRIP (Tennessee River Inspirational Pottery).  Face jugs have a long tradition in the American South - slaves made them to put on graves, and they are often grotesque or frightening.

TRIP face jugs are different - they are often whimsical, and they are inspirational as well as decorative. Each piece is marked on the bottom with a Bible verse.  The "Church Lady" has Romans 10:9 -  "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Potters : Trotwood and Amanda Mance , Grant, Alabama

Markings : TRIP, Romans 10 - 9
