How to Remove Price Stickers from Collectibles
I like to go to thrift stores and to look for bargains, but the stores I go to always use stickers to price their items and stickers sure are a pain to get of without damaging the item . Glass and metal are fairly easy to clean but paper is tricky.
To remove the price stickers from glass and metal I like to use Goo Gone Spray Gel. The Goo Gone Gel doesn’t dry as fast as regular Goo Gone. I just spray a little on the stickers that I want off, leave it on for a few hours - or even overnight - and the stickers come right off. Regular Goo Gone will take the stickers off metal & glass but you usually have to make a couple of applications.
To remove the price stickers from books and paper objects I take a hair dryer and heat the sticker as hot as I can get it. I try to get a corner up first (you have to be gentle lifting the sticker or it will tear and will be harder to remove). You have to keep the sticker hot and apply steady pressure to get it off in one piece. (Warning: Your finger tips get very warm). Once you have removed the price sticker there is usually some gum residue left behind.
Take Goo Gone Pump Spray
and spray some on a paper towel and wipe the gum residue area gently. Then wipe the area with a clean soft rag to get any excess Goo Gone off your item. That should have it clean. Goo Gone makes a really strong cleaner it will remove paint and varnish. It's called Xtreme Goo Gone. I tried the Xtreme on a book and it took the color off the dust jacket.
I also use Goo Gone Pump Spray
to remove small amounts of grease from sewing machines. I'll talk about cleaning sewing machines in another article!
